International Commercial Manager

This is an opportunity to work for a company that has doubled its turnover in 4 years and is looking to double over the next 4 years. They must be doing something right!

Winterbotham Darby is one of the fastest-growing food businesses in the UK that predominantly supplies own-label chilled food produced in Europe to the major supermarket chains in the UK. Established in 1962 we have been at the forefront of categories like continental meats, chilled olives, antipasti and continental morning goods that have fundamentally changed the eating habits of the UK.

 International Function

For many years our business has been focused primarily on customers within the United Kingdom, supplying the highest quality chilled and ambient food from all over Europe. In early 2012, increased attention from retail customers in Europe and further afield led to the establishment of the International and Export sales team, focused on delivering the same high levels of customer service, product and packaging innovation on which the company was built.

Today we service multiple retailers across the world, applying our years of experience in own label and branded ranges with our extensive worldwide supply chain network. A huge amount of focus and investment is being put into the International function and now looking to expand our team. We are now on the hunt for an International Commercial Manager to join the business.  

This position will report directly into the Head of International Business Development however due to location your day to day contact will be with the Senior International Commercial Manager. Your objective is to build on our experience and reputation in the chilled area in the UK by delivering added value to our retail partners in International markets, whether through own-label or a branded offering. Focus will be on account management within already established markets.

Position Summary

The key focus of this position will be to manage key accounts across Europe. You will be working on the management, development of established accounts in Europe and effectively manage the end to end relationships with defined customers and suppliers either directly or together with the Senior International Commercial Manager.

  • You will identify and focus efforts on key strategic accounts to drive business
  • You will develop business plans with each customer and be comfortable travelling to these markets to build relationships, negotiate and agree joint initiatives
  • You will set goals and utilises measurements to determine progress by assigned markets and accounts
  • You will proactively review and drive growth opportunities within categories and new adjacent categories
  • You will be able to position a win/win situation for Winterbotham Darby and customers during negotiation

What we are looking for

You will have a proven FMCG track record in Sales within an International environment, preferably in Food across both branded and own label. You will have:

  • Experience of account management in International markets
  • Strong knowledge and experience of the food market, ideally within a chilled category
  • Experience of working cross-functionally to achieve results
  • Has a wide variety of motivational strategies to positively influence behaviours of others
  • Strong commercial and financial acumen
  • Able to adjust to new and unfamiliar situations whilst maintain an open mind
  • Acts with courage and can build credibility and trust.
  • Preferably speak one or more additional languages (German, French, Spanish)
