Mike, assistant store manager, agrees wholeheartedly, adding that each and every colleague in store knows that a passion for service and the desire to exceed expectations are what deliver results for everyone: business customer and wholesaler. He says: “While advising customers is crucial to making sure they’re really happy, I’ve got to look beyond the day-to-day to ensure we stay ahead of their changing needs and business demands.”
Fresh Focus
When the focus is on fresh, the stakes are high: businesses rely on rapid delivery and reliable availability. The team at Grenache demand all of these things from their supplier and the team at Makro aim to deliver on all fronts.
In butchery, Lee, meat manager, manages all priorities delivering in quantity for all his customers. He is an accomplished butcher and inspires his team with the same high standards of service as he delivers. “You’ve got to be able to balance a lot of priorities and, of course, the customer always comes first.”
Nowhere is freshness more important than in fish. Mike the fishmonger showcases ‘what good looks like’, while also taking care of stock control efficiently. “I really get to know my customers and their businesses so I can offer them the products they’ll be most interested in. I might be talking a new customer through the range or preparing an order to meet a customer’s exacting standards. I’ll even advise on how best to cook the fish.”
The focus on fresh is just as important in fruit and veg, where Artan is an expert in his field and is keen to share this knowledge with the team and his customers, while also working with the support centre to innovate and improve even more. “Whether I’m explaining the range, or putting together an order, advising on cooking methods or recipes and other ingredients, I really get to know my customers and their businesses.”
Key account manager Diane thrives on meeting new customers, getting to know what they need and introducing them to her panel of in store experts. She’s happiest when she’s in the field, identifying new opportunities on behalf of customers and championing customer service at every opportunity. “I love getting out and about, building relationships and getting a buzz out of offering solutions that help grow my customers’ businesses.
