Commercial Manager - South

A Commercial Manager is required by a significant Agri-Food business to drive forward an innovative ingredient project for the food and health markets. A significant capital investment has been made and a £multi million revenue stream will follow implementation of the business plan.

Reporting to a board director the Commercial Manager will manage the successful integration of the project partners, develop and implement commercial strategy.

Part of the project includes a new application in an existing global market and it will be necessary to demonstrate the health and economic benefits of the product and then agree the optimal route to market including evaluating potential strategic partnerships. A general database of the market is in place but this role will be critical in developing the commercial strategy for this opportunity based on the outcome of scientific research trials.

Given the “start-up” nature of the business, the team is very small and requires a flexible and hands on approach. There is a considerable scientific aspect to the products within this business sector and the individual in this role should expect to be challenged with translating science facts into business benefits.

Principal areas of responsibility:

• Create and implement the commercial strategy for the project
• Manage the transition of business processes and customer management between partners and provide support during the startup phase of operations
• Own the market and customer database
• Review and refine the business plan and project manage delivery of key actions
• Identify, evaluate and recommend potential partner organisations
• Develop and implement communications plan
• Recommend product development priorities aligned to market trends
• Recommend long-term commercial resource structure to support on-going business
• Produce regular board updates on financial forecasts

There are no direct reports and the Commercial Manager will work collaboratively with colleagues as part of a cross-functional and cross-organisational team and deputise for the director as required. This business opportunity is operating as a discrete business unit within the company.

Attributes required:

• >10 years Business to Business (B2B) Commercial Experience
• Business Strategy Development
• B2B Marketing experience
• Project management expertise
• Global business exposure
• Able to work in an ambiguous and complex environment with multiple stakeholders
• Knowledge of the agri-food /food  ingredients industry would be helpful
