Job Details

My client is a UK leading artisan bakery business that specialises in manufacturing fresh sourdough breads and traditional pastries. They currently supply London’s crème da la crème including the country’s top chefs, finest cafes, Michelin star restaurants and high end delis. Over the past 4 years they have had some unrivalled growth almost trebling business year on year, it’s now turning over in excess of £4m. Due to this growth and future plans the business is now looking for a talented and networked Business Development Manager/Executive to join their small and dynamic team.

Reporting to the Managing Director, the job role will be focusing on developing business in their ‘traditional’ channels, high end restaurants, delis and independent retail however this role will also be looking to open up new channels. They feel 5* hotels and bigger independent retail are areas, if focused on could bring in big business. The business is also backed by one for the UK’s favourite celebrity chefs so it already has quite a reputation and strong following. The successful applicant will be able to use his/her network along with the company’s reputation do develop business.

Ideally you’ll have experience of selling premium food products into the high end foodservice channels working with both chefs and buyers. You will currently be a BDM or a BDE with experience of developing business in London and further afield. This is a fairly young team so they are really looking for an experienced head with the networks already in place. You might have strong ties with the Ritz and the Savoy or know buyers in Fortnum & Mason and Harrods! A food manufacturing background is also desirable as this role does require the successful candidate to have an understanding and appreciation of what goes on behind the scenes. They are all bread obsessed, of course, but initially they came together through a love of real food in general rather than bread in particular so they don’t expect you to have extensive technical baking knowledge. They are looking for a real foodie with a passion for the sector and an eye for business development. You could also be working in drinks but must have the established network in place that would allow you to develop business with current clients with bakery products. A degree is desirable.
