Job Details

Our client is a truly global business with market leading internationally recognised brands within the beer sector. With a heavy presence already in the UK an opportunity has arisen within their growing Category team

As a Category Manager your role will entail...

  • Taking the lead in the category relationship with specific key strategic customers including Head Office visits and buyer meetings to gain additional ranging and more preferential space.

  • Developing the category agenda and position of influence within your key customer base

  • Building strong relationships and influencing customers to move their strategies in directions that support MBUK portfolio

  • Leading the identification of gaps in the Category approach & Category/Shopper Insight and developing plans to fill them and take the insight out to customers

  • Supporting the Category Controller in developing category vision and engagement plans for the long term to “Change The Way People Think About Beer”

  • Leading the development of customer specific category vision & category strategy sell-in meetings and outputs

  • Representing the Category function and requirements in sales team meetings as appropriate

  • Working with the commercial teams to develop Joint Business Plans which achieve customer sales and distribution targets
  • Data mining, analysis and presentation creation and delivery of customer category reviews for key strategic customers.

  • Development of category arguments and activities to drive business and turn the data and insight into compelling selling stories
  • Developing category agenda and position of influence within customer base
  • Working with the Customer Marketing Department to develop highly creative in-store activity
  • Developing, implementing and reviewing category plans to optimise brand performance

  • Communication and Influencing - Communicating category insights in a compelling way, so that it is easy for our business partners to leverage them for improved decision-making

  • Generating Meaningful & Actionable Insights - Creating timely and relevant category insights that inspire a culture of action that drives competitive advantage.

  • Planning & Execution - Doing the right research to address the business questions and executing projects with excellence.

  • Business Acumen - Incorporating knowledge of the business model and strategies / goals into research planning, design and recommendations.

  • Relationship Building - Developing productive and mutually beneficial relationships with business, strategic accounts and agency partners.

  • Methodology & Analytics Inventory - Choosing and applying the research and analytical tools that are necessary to meet client needs.

  • Problem Solving - The ability to identify, analyse and diagnose a problem and then suggest a viable solution

Experience & Skills required

  • Proven insight or Category development experience preferably within the FMCG market place

  • In-depth understanding and experience of On or Off Trade data systems – examples being Nielsen Answers or IRI CPGN, Kantar Worldpanel, Retailer Proprietary Databases, CGA
  • Strong analytical skills and understanding of merchandising and shopper behaviours

  • Drinks experience is preferable but not essential

  • Problem solving, imagination and creativity

  • Presentation skills – ability to present and respond to questions posed by key customers
