Job Details

Our client is looking for an experienced Category Manager to join their growing team. With operations across 5 continents and market-leading brands, this is a great opportunity to market products that are steeped in tradition and are recognised globally.

The Role

Reporting to the Category Controller in this autonomous role, the Category Manager will drive revenue through creating a category vision & category strategies for growth via building distribution & RoS through optimisation of space on shelf/bar/fridge in both Off Trade and On Trade customers.

Working within the UK Category Development team this role will take category accountability for key strategic accounts as well as support the Category Controller, Marketing and Sales teams with responsibility for researching, developing & presenting powerful consumer & shopper insight and rationales to maximize the above.

Key accountabilities
 

  • Work with commercial teams to develop Joint Business Plans which achieve customer sales and distribution targets
  • Lead the develop of customer specific category vision & category strategy sell-in meetings and outputs
  • Build strong relationships and influence customers to move their strategies in directions that support the total portfolio
  • Taking the lead in the category relationship with specific key strategic customers including Head Office visits and buyer meetings to gain additional ranging and more preferential space.
  • Support Category Controller in developing category vision and engagement plans for the long term to "Change The Way People Think About Beer"
  • Drive growth in the account through increased distribution and space
  • Develop, implement and review category plans to optimise brand performance
  • Be a lead voice for a small category team within the business championing and embedding the Category Vision & category team agenda within decision making on an ongoing basis


The Successful Candidate

Ideally the successful candidate be someone who can get stuck in and role with the punches. The client is looking for someone not only with excellent cognitive ability, but an individual who possesses a fantastic attitude also. An individual with natural attention to detail, with an enthusiasm for making a difference, will be highly desirable characteristics.

Desired experience
 

  • Proven Insight or category experience preferably within FMCG.
  • Strong communication skills –a confident presenter.
  • Ability to influence at all levels
  • Experience of the use of Nielsen Answers or IRI CPGN, Kantar Worldpanel, Retailer Proprietary Databases
  • Strong understanding of merchandising principles and shopper behaviours
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Experience of Space Planning software preferable - ProSpace/SpaceMan etc.
  • Experience within drinks preferable
